Publishing Production Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Publishing Production

REPORTS TO: Supplementation Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The primary responsibilities of the Publishing Production Supervisor include managing the team and coordinating workflow in order to ensure that all projects are published to the highest quality standard, on time and within budget.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OR TASKS PERFORMED:

  • Manages the Publishing Production team, which includes functions such as Word Processing, Proofreading, Indexing, Page Layout and Check Pages, by:

  • Managing workload and ensuring timely completion of projects to meet goals
  • Coaching and motivating team to meet performance goals
  • Leading by modeling our company values
  • Uses objective measures to track, manage and improve performance of individual contributors, clarifying individual responsibilities required to meet or exceed established performance and quality goals

  • Identifies cross-functional process improvements that increase productivity, quality and timeliness, and works with Operations Managers to implement

  • Coordinates with Code and Supplementation Managers to ensure smooth work handoffs and sufficient manpower to meet revenue targets

  • Participates in annual budgeting process, reviews requirements and uses quantitative models to forecast manpower and resources required to meet revenue projections

  • Understands the corporate goals, strategies, philosophy and profitability objectives, and works within and toward those objectives

Experience and Skills:

  • Degree in media technology or business preferred, or equivalent technology, business or project management experience

  • Minimum 3 years in supervision of employees with 2 years’ experience in print and electronic media production

  • Experience in managing employee time tracking, labor hours and performance management and reviews

  • Knowledgeable in processes required for publishing and experience with media production tools, including content management systems, templates, workflow tracking, XML editing tools, desktop publishing, and automated systems that output content for viewing on the web and electronic devices

  • Project management experience, scoping project resource requirements and driving projects to timely completion

  • Experience with forecasting and budgeting processes, measures and controls

  • Eager to learn and implement new publishing technologies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to effectively interpret and communicate data both to front-line employees as well as to management

  • Desire to participate in a values-based, team-oriented environment
